Motoyuki SHITANDA

Born 1952  in Osaka City, Japan.

Majored in Composition at Tokyo University of the Arts ("Tokyo Geidai").

Professor at Akita University (1994 - 2014) and part-time lecturer at Seirei Women's Junior College (1990 - 2001).

Music Director of Atorion Chamber Orchestra (2005 - 2011).

Currently, member of the Japan Federation of Composers (JFC).

 

Recipient of Akita Prefecture Art Encouragement Prize (1994), and Akita City Cultural Merit Award (2009).

1983     Two movements for 17-string Koto solo

Awarded by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, and broadcasted on NHK radio program.

1985     "Festal March" for Concert Band

Won the 1st Prize in the Sasakawa Prize Composition Competition, and published by Sasakawa Foundation.

1989     "Mural" for Symphonic Band

Published by Nexuss.

1992     "Pastoral" for Flute and Piano

Published by JFC, and broadcasted on NHK radio program.

1995     "Fantasy" for Clarinet solo

Published by JILA.

1998     "Retrospection" for Viola and Piano

Published by JFC, and broadcasted on NHK radio program.

2000     "Path" — Scene for Shakuhachi solo

Published by JFC.

2000     "In a grove" Monodrama for Male Voice and 17-string Koto

Won the 2nd Prize in the composition division of SOGAKUDO Japan Lied Competition.

2004     "Hi-no-Kyoku" for 10 Japanese instrument players

Won the 1st Prize and the Member Award in the Pro Musica Nipponia 40th Anniversary Memorial Competition for Composition.
